Prayagraj, India: The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttarakhand, has drawn millions of devotees daily, creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration. Pilgrims, despite long journeys, express immense joy as they take holy dips at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

The Kumbh Mela, believed to occur once every 144 years, has witnessed a significant rise in visitors, especially after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ritual bathing. Information Officer Gagan Yadav stated that 10 to 30 million devotees arrive daily, with AI-powered cameras tracking the influx. More than 450 million people have already attended, and the number is expected to reach 550 million before the event concludes.

Opportunity for Nepal in Religious Tourism
Yadav emphasized that Nepal could leverage the Maha Kumbh’s popularity to boost religious tourism, as many devotees also visit Ayodhya's Ram Temple and Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Nepal, home to revered sites like Pashupatinath, Muktinath, and Lumbini, can attract these pilgrims through strategic promotion and pilgrimage packages.

The Indian government has spent Rs 75 billion on infrastructure and accommodations, including temporary shelters, media centers, and enhanced riverbank facilities to accommodate devotees.

By tapping into this massive religious gathering, Nepal can enhance its cultural and religious tourism sector, drawing more international pilgrims to its sacred sites.
